How to Find a Swim Meet
To compete in a swim meet, you must register by completing a meet entry before the
competition’s closing date. The hosting club will generally produce a Meet Flyer containing
details such as events, deadlines, and qualifying times. This information can be found on the
Swim Victoria (SV) website.
Swim Meet Entry – Click
Swimming meets are entered online through the Swim Victoria website, which uses times
from a national database that includes results from all official meets. It’s okay if you do not
have a time, as most events do not have qualifying times. As you progress, your times will
determine the heats you swim in and your eligibility for more competitive meets such as
Metropolitan, State, and National competitions. The D5 club competition calendar on the
club website will indicate which meets the club is targeting and when a coach will be present.
Try to attend the meets where a coach is in attendance, particularly for the first few meets.
When you get more comfortable, you can of course enter others!
Competition Day
Here are some guidelines to help you through your first few meets. If you have any
questions, ask your coach.
What to Bring
* D5 Swim Cap
* 2 pairs of goggles
* Swimsuit: 1 for warm-up, 1 for racing (optional)
* 2 towels
* Team uniform
* Healthy snacks and water bottles (Alimiles_dietitian with Fuel School on Instagram

Team Uniform
The team uniform helps coaches identify swimmers and promotes team spirit. We offer
many items to choose from, but the most important are the jumper, swimming cap, and T-
shirt.
* D5 Jumper
* D5 T-Shirt
* Deck Coat for cold and windy days. Warm swimmers are fast swimmers!
When to Arrive
Arrival time depends on the meet start time and when you are racing. Generally, it’s best to
arrive 1.5 hours before your first race. When you arrive, check in with the coach for a warm-
up and pre-race information.
Marshalling
Swimmers need to be marshalled before their heats. Locate the marshalling area before the
meet starts and be there on time for each event. Missing marshalling means missing the
race!
Post-Race Talk with the Coach and Warm-Down
After your race, chat with the coach for feedback and positive reinforcement. Ensure you
complete your warm-down as instructed. Warm-ups and warm-downs prevent injuries!
Parents
Celebrate your child’s successes and offer support for any disappointments. Be the loudest
cheerleader, but let the coach handle the coaching.
If you have any questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask your Coach or Team
Manager.
