Derren “Dez” Gardiner
Head Coach
Head Coach and the co-founder of the D5 Swimming Club in 2021.
Dez has had a life long involvement in swimming for over 35 years. Firstly as a competitive swimmer attaining national level, training with an original member of the “Mean Machine” under the tutelage of the legendary Jim O’Doherty, then as a parent of a national level swimmer, club president and coach.
Dez has coached part time on and off for the best part of 25 years starting with juniors and working with the National squad at a previous club before taking on the Head Coach role at King Swim Club in July 2018.
Dez is an Advanced Level coach and has a desire to build the D5 Swimming Club into a recognizable force in the swimming community.
Caelan Benson
Head Junior Coach
Caelan has been in the swimming scene for 8 years, engaging as a swim teacher at Kingswim, where he was a coach for the Kings Platypus Squad and Fitness Squad. He has a strong passion for helping swimmers become the best they can be, in the pool and out.
Caelan has undertaken competitive sport his whole life from basketball to cricket, to being a swimmer himself, and the enjoyment of sport and passion for teaching has propelled him into starting as a coach at Kings Swim Club in 2018.
Caelan is a Development Level Coach who wants to see swimmers enjoy swimming, then see that passion develop into a love for the sport and help them achieve their goals.
